Catherine Pinkerton is the main protagonist in Marissa Meyer’s fantasy novel, Heartless, a twisted tale and origin story of the famous Queen of Hearts.
Catherine or Cath, though of noble birth has dreamt of opening up a bakery with her friend, Mary Ann, and becoming the greatest baker in all of Hearts. Cath is afraid of confronting and requesting her family for funds to turn her hobby into a career, as she is afraid of their further disapproval.
Cath's Mother and Father push for Cath's unwillingly entry into an awkward courtship with the King of Hearts. While at a party which she finds out later was going to be an engagement party for her and the king, Cath meets the king's new joker, Jest. As the two get to know each other following the events of the novel they grow madly in love, so madly in fact that they are willing to defy the courtship with the king, defeat a monster, and claim a throne only for revenge.
You've probably heard of the Queen of Hearts, you know her temper, and her famous words 'Off With Your Head', but now you get to know the heart behind the heartless.

She has fair skin, a beautiful complexion, dark hair and rosy cheeks. Jest describes her eyes as green apples sprinkled with cinnamon and her hair as dark chocolate in one of the King’s love poems.

Cath is ambitious, as she wants to become a baker despite her position. She has proven what lengths she will go to in order to achieve her goal. She has also displayed kindness and bravery even when in the midst of danger.
